The funny friendship between this dog and tortoise is heartwarmingly cute
Rocket Larry, the tortoise adopted by a couple from Los Angeles in 2009, probably never expected that he would get a most unusual buddy in his new peaceful life.
As the third-largest species of tortoise in the world, Larry can grow to reach 150 lbs and outlive his owners. And his new parents are obviously amazed by how active the African Sulcata is in his new home.
Since being adopted, Larry crawls into the kitchen every morning and wanders around at his owners' feet. Enjoying the sunshine and digging out the soil in the garden seem to be on his to-do list every day as well. But in 2011, his quiet life was completely changed.
That was when a feisty pooch named Puka joined the family. The couple adopted Puka after a friend found her sitting at a bus stop wearing a little bow tie.
Puka was born with a cleft palate, which causes constant sneezing, coughing and infections in the sinuses. Many puppies die from the condition but Puka refused to give up.
Puka immediately became Larry's biggest fan and brought the family a lot of joy. You can always catch Puka sniffing Larry’s face and licking his shell. And Larry was never afraid of her.
What a cute couple!
Seeing them lazily lying next to each other and sharing a snack is the most soothing scene for the couple.
And when the tortoise is hiding, all the owners have to do is say, “find Larry!” and Puka will locate him in an instant.
These adopted siblings are inseparable now. Not only did the pair find a lovely home, but they also established an amazing cross-species friendship!
We wish Larry and Puka many happy years together!
