Ring, dress and cake: Her wedding had everything but the husband
It's often said that love works in mysterious ways. However, the story of Laura Mesi, a 40-year-old fitness instructor from the Italian town of Lissone, has probably taken this to a whole new level.
The Italian singleton made a choice that astonished everybody and broke with tradition — by marrying herself! "I told friends and family that if I had not found my soul-mate by my 40th birthday I would marry myself," she said. And that's just what Laura did when she pulled out all the stops with a ceremony attended by 70 guests and costing the best part of $12,000. With no expense spared, Laura had everything she could ever want: a white dress, the bouquet...
... and the cake, course. Though there was only one figurine on top.
Laura is very happy with her decision and has no regrets. "I firmly believe that each of us must first of all love ourselves. You can have a fairytale even without the prince. This is my fairytale wedding — only without a Prince Charming," she said.
When summing up her feelings, Laura also added: "I will never get a divorce." While this Italian woman's choice has left many people speechless, it's not the first time someone has married themselves. Self-marriage is a growing trend among single people, with ceremonies conducted across the globe. We wish Laura many happy years of marriage!
