Doctors gave up on him: Wife nurses man in coma back to health
After dating for only two months, they promised to love each other in good times and in bad. Soon afterward though, the husband fell into a coma. With doctors wanting to switch off his life-support equipment, his wife then did the unthinkable.
Matt Davis, 22, and his wife Danielle were madly in love. The two tied the knot after meeting only eight weeks prior. Seven months into their marriage, the couple were planning for a bright future until Matt experienced a cruel twist of fate one summer's day.
He was involved in a horrific motorcycle accident, breaking several bones and suffering serious damage to his brain. Due to the extent of his injuries, doctors said there was very little hope of Matt ever waking up from his coma and recommended Danielle switch off his life-support machine.
The young woman refused to do so though, not wanting to give up so quickly when they hadn't even been given the chance to start their life together. Matt's father had died two years previously and his mother was too unwell to look after him. Undeterred, newly-married Danielle stepped up to the plate and decided to take care of her husband at home 24 hours a day. She gave everything up just to be with him.
Her unwavering hope was finally rewarded when Matt managed to open his eyes after three months in a coma. Danielle noticed that he wanted to say something and tried to get him to speak. Suddenly, Matt was able to gasp, "I'm trying!" Danielle could hardly believe her ears and remembered, "It was the greatest thing I ever heard."
Day by day, Matt fought hard to recover, learning to speak, stand, and walk again. However, he still has trouble remembering what happened before the accident. His relationship with Danielle, their marriage — all of that is now gone. Yet, Matt is still sure of one thing: "I'm happy that I married Danielle!" Without his wife's love and support, he most probably wouldn't be alive today.
Danielle's commitment to her husband worked miracles. Though the doctors had given up on him, Matt was able to fight his way out of the coma against all odds. It's amazing what love can do!
